Dogs - American Staffordshire Terrier (Amstaff)The American Staffordshire Terrier, or Amstaff, as it is called, is descended from the Staffordshire Bull Terrier. The breed has its roots in the county of Staffordshire, England, where they were bred to fight other dogs for sport. They were taken to America, where the sport of dog-fighting was popular in the 1800's. Today the American version is said to be less aggressive than the English, though they look a little like a pit bull terrier. The history of dogs & development of breeds.
