Lionridge Kennels have been breeding Golden Retrievers for the last 9 years. I pride myself in beautiful well socialized, sound dogs. We are a small farm-based kennel in Swellendam and our 3 "Blondes" are our house pets. Golden Retrievers are versatile, cheerful dogs that enjoy participating in many activities. They live for their humans and if you don't have enough time to spend with your Golden, don't consider getting one. I believe the first 8 weeks in a dogs life is the base for it's social structure for the rest of his life, that is why we socialize our puppies with children and other dogs from birth. Our puppies are not in kennels and we start our house (potty) training from 3 weeks till they go to their new homes. Your puppy's purchase price may be a smidgen of what you spend over its lifetime. Think ahead to 10-12 years of vet bills and the importance of choosing a puppy whose ancestors have had x-rays for hip displasia. I try to prevent this in my breeding and the best way to see if my breeding is healthy is to take x-rays before I breed and keep in touch with the owners of our pups. I like to know about any illnesses that the dogs get so we can check if it is genetic and if we can prevent it in future. Puppies are de-wormed and inoculated. The puppies are raised on Hill's Science Plan large breed puppy.
The legal stuffThe affix "Lionridge," is registered with KUSA. Our dogs are KUSA registered. We give a signed KUSA registration certificate to the new owners. We put a breeding restriction on puppies till the new owner can prove that he can breed responsibly.
