The Bible Society aims to provide affordable Bibles to all in a language and format they can use. To reach this goal they have printed Bibles for those who can read, audio Bibles for those who cannot read, Braille Bibles for the blind, and special translations for the deaf.
They sell standard Bibles to churches and individuals at a reduced price, but to be able to sell at a low price, a donation of R35 per Bible is needed.
They also have low cost Bibles available in English, Zulu and Xhosa, and hopefully soon in Afrikaans.
They need money to subsidise the price of
Bibles, do translation work and provide those who cannot afford it with free
Bibles. The latter is a special program and they need at least R60 000 for the
Eastern Cape alone to be able to satisfy the need for free Bibles.
The Bible is available in only 475 of the world's 6600 languages. The need is urgent!
Grahamstown has a fundraiser each year in the form of a Fun Walk from the town to the Bible Monument.
Pets Place's effort is a Dog Walk, Daft Dog Show, Jumble Sale, and Plant Sale. Catnip, a plant that cats like, will be on sale.
