5 working border collies & their owner

About border collies

The border collie was originally called the Scottish sheepdog and is in South Afrika commonly referred to as the "skaaphond". They originated in Northumberland along the borders of Scotland and England. Named a "workaholic" for its shear drive and love for working, the border collie has an eye that can hypnotize cattle, it can master any type of herd by crouching down and slowly manipulating the animals in the direction the handler want them to go.

The Border Collie is very intelligent and aware of their surroundings, they are able to be trained to a high degree. This is one of the hardest working dogs thriving on praise. Border Collies are represented among the leaders in competitive levels in various sport, excelling in agility, obedience, frisbee, flyball and sheepdog trails. These competitions are just the thing for them and they are commonly used and often win. For those who wish to reach high levels in dog sports, the Border Collie is a gift from heaven.

Border Collies where originally bred as a farm hand to assist the farmer in running their flocks and it is in this field where the Border Collie can come to its full potential. The Border collie is highly energetic with great stamina. Provided they get sufficient activity to keep them occupied and ample exercise, the Border Collie can make a wonderfull family pet, and they will get along quite happily with other dogs and children. To be truly happy they need a lot of consistent leadership, extensive daily exercise, and a job to occupy their minds.

Chrisridogs Border Collies are working dogs in heart and soul, they thrive on doing every day sheep-work on the farm and sheepdog trails. At Chrisridogs we breed Border Collies for strong herding instinct, stamina, speed and agileness to able to turn quickly and jump high, they must be able to go all day, jump stock fences and onto the back of the bakkie, stop and turn very quickly and with great ease to last a working day. The Border Collies on Eindelik farm are fit; they are hardy with lots of stamina to be able to work the full day and if necessary still some overtime, farm life and the keeping of livestock is a 24 /7 job and our Border Collies must be able to keep up with that.
