Dogs - Dogue de Bordeaux

The Dogue de Bordeaux originated in France. Bordeaux is a town in south-west France. Dogues are a French mastiff type of dog. They were used for the sport of fighting with other animals in a ring.

Early development of breeds of dogs

A dogue de Bordeaux has an intimidating appearance, with a large head and strong jaws.  They love the company of people and other pets. They are gentle with children.

Being a strong dog, training is advisable in the formative months.

The head is wrinkled.

Coat: short haired, fine.

Colour: any shade of red or blonde. The mask on the face can be red or black, with nose to match. White markings are permitted on chest and feet.

If a dogue is made part of a family, he will guard that family.

There are times when we too have to guard our families from bad influences. The Bible says, "Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be men of courage; be strong!"
