There's a good movie on YouTube called, "Owd Bob." It's about sheepdogs (border collies). Family drama, and dog drama make a good story!

SNAKES
Verulam, Durban: Snakes are usually inactive in winter, but we do get warm days. Recently three dogs were temporarily blinded by a Mozambican spitting cobra. Snakes can't swallow a dog so they won't attack one. But if a dog sees a snake, it will try to bite it and the snake will retaliate in self-defence. A large cobra can shoot venom for three metres. It blinds its enemy and escapes. The treatment is to prise the dog's eyes open and wash out the venom with water. Cats may also try to catch a snake. The treatment for cats, and for humans, is the same. Generallly, if you remove the dog, the snake will remove itself.

HOOVES
Pet shops and supermarkets sell packets of cattle hooves that dogs like to chew. Owners should keep an eye on the dog as hooves can be chewed till there is just a small piece left. This can be swallowed and could block the intestine. Sharp edges can tear the mouth and digestive system. Sometimes dogs become possessive over hooves and will snarl at any dog or person who tries to take it away. Distract the dog with a piece of meat or tasty dog food. Remove the hoof and don't give it back!

BIRTHDAY PARTY
I heard from a breeder whose dog had 8 pups. The breeder sold them all to folk who lived nearby so she could keep an eye on them. When they were a year old, she had a birthday party reunion for the whole litter! I thought this was lovely! Here is an exemplary breeder who keeps in touch with the buyers for at least a year after the pups leave home. Very good "after sales service!" She offers to rehome the dogs if the buyer can't keep them. It's a good thing if breeders keep records of who buys pups, & it's a good thing if folk who buy pups keep a note of the breeder's contact details! If breeders help to find new homes, the dogs won't end up in the homeless shelter if folk can no longer keep them.

HOW TO RECOGNISE A SCAM
If you Google, "puppies for sale," some of the results will be Google advertisements. It may say, "Ad." as in the example above, or it may say, "Sponsored." Many of these ads are scams. One clue we see here is the cheap price. Real breeders don't offer 30% discount. They don't want folk buying a dog on impulse just because it's marked down.
Another clue is the word, "teacup." Scammers know that a lot of people want a dog that will fit in a teacup but good breeders steer away from the word, "teacup" and they strive to produce healthy puppies that are the standard size.

A scam is a crime, so if you are scammed, report it to the police!
Technically, scamming is not theft because the victim hands the money over. It's actually fraud, but we feel robbed. Robbed of money, robbed of our trust in human beings, robbed of our peace of mind. Many people have had their ID stolen by scammers and used for other crimes.
The effects of a puppy scam are devastating. Do scammers not care? The Bible pleads with wrong-doers - "Let the thief no longer steal, but rather let him labour, doing honest work with his own hands" Ephesians 4, 28.

These are just SOME of the scams waiting to ambush people.
If you see an ad for puppies, do a video call in real time before you pay. You need to see the puppies and breeder same time. If the seller makes excuses, it's probably a scam. Scammers don't have any puppies - they are lying. The photos are stolen off the internet.
